who we are

In early 1961, Rev. William McKeever held a Bible study in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bagby to discuss the need for a new Bible believing Baptist church on the southeast side of Columbus. After much prayer, Rev. George and Betty Meyers began door-to-door survey work in July of 1961. Pine Hills Baptist Church was officially organized on April 25, 1962 with 26 charter members.

Our current pastor, Jeffrey Farr, began his ministry in January 2009. During his years as pastor, God opened many doors for ministry. Both Hayes Road Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of New Albany merged with Pine Hills Baptist Church, and the new congregation unanimously voted to unite under the name Cornerstone Baptist Church.

We believe that God will continue to use Cornerstone to bless the Columbus area and the world, and there are several unique ministry opportunities that we are looking to establish:

1. Bible Institute - Currently, we are involved in providing pastoral training classes in Southeast Asia to pastors who do not have the opportunity to attend a Bible school or seminary. God has also given us the burden to establish a biblically grounded Bible Institute. In accordance with this burden, we are working to provide continuing education to pastors in our local area and Bible classes to anyone with a thirst to learn more about the Bible.

2. Internships - We desire to disciple our future pastors; thus, we are working with both schools and local churches to find opportunities for pastoral majors to intern with churches and gain experience in church service.

3. Counseling and Resource Center - Sin has broken this world and the people in it. Our church is surrounded by people who are hurting and in need of our Savior Jesus Christ. We want to bless them and bring them closer to God through counsel, Bible study, and ultimately, through the Gospel.

If you are looking for a church home, we would love to have you join our family. Perhaps you have been hurt in the past and are cautious about coming to an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people. We would like to be a place of comfort and solace and a place you can call home! Our Wednesday night prayer meetings or Sunday evening services are a wonderful opportunity to get to know our pastor and church members in a smaller setting; however, we would also love for you to join us Sunday mornings for a time of worshiping our wonderful Savior and fellowshipping with one another.

We hope to see you this Sunday for service or Wednesday for prayer meeting!
